Earlier this year, we brought you the story of the millions of White House e-mails that mysteriously went missing featuring an interview with Thomas Blanton of the National Security Archive. Millions of e-mails just seemed to disappear, and no one in the White House was able (or willing) to explain it. The e-mails in question stem from the period of time when the U.S. decided to invade Iraq. And last January, the White House came out and admitted that the e-mails might have gotten lost.

Trying to understand how all of that could happen was pretty hard. And according to a U.S. federal judge ruling yesterday, the White House doesnt have to make understanding the ordeal any easier.

The judge ruled that the White House Office Administration doesnt have substantial independent authority and therefore cannot be held accountable to the Freedom of Information Act. That means it's off the hook for handing over information and documents related to the failed e-mail system.

The lawsuit was launched by a group called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. They say they will now appeal they judges decision.
